Sorry, for the long absence. We have the log off our roof now. That’s good. I reformatted my computer, hoping to improve my Dial-up Access, but that is not working so well. I never get on to AOL with the first try and, when I do get on, other things seem to be constantly running and keeping me from doing anything.

So, I am writing this at night, hoping to have a solid minute online to actually upload it.
Husband left town for a few days to pick up eldest boy, Gaffer. His ride from Duluth, MN fell through and he had no way to get home. He has his permit and IS getting his license when he gets back if I have to take him.

You have no idea how exciting it is to have a husband gone for three days; until you have had one home with you, twenty-four hours a day, for twenty years. Since, I am an artist and work out of my home, and he has been disabled and unable to work for that long, it is just way too much togetherness.

Mom offered to come, and stay and keep me company. I have to wonder how often she actually listens to me, since I repeatedly say, “I love to be alone.” Of course, she does not and probably wanted company herself, but husband took our only reliable car and there is not a bed here she is comfortable in and, once you have read the rest of this, you will see why she is probably glad she stayed home.

Yes, things are normal around here.

The first day EMT took JRock to school, almost. His truck, the one they worked on all weekend; the one they dropped the engine and replaced a seal and all kinds of goodies on, well, it broke down between here and town. The restaurant owner, where it is parked, is kindly letting it sit there for a few days. I got the call, and went to pick the boys up. So, while he is at work now, I do not have access to a car. No problem!

That day, the icemaker quit working. Okay, fill the stack of small yogurt containers with water and freeze them. No problem!

My plan to clean my downstairs studio, while husband was gone, went well. I emptied it the first day, onto his bed. Today, I put things away where they belong, cleaned off his bed, went out to the outside studio and got the couple of containers that belong in here. I do have three containers I have to sort through yet, but it is not piles here and there. I had no idea how much room I had down there. I still have empty cupboards I can fill up.

However, I may never go down there again after what I found, this evening.

EMT works with making knives and doing leather goods. He was looking for some copper, to decorate a knife holder with, and I thought I might have some in my downstairs studio. And, since it was now mostly clean, I could find it. I got down on my knees, searched the cupboard, only had rods and tubes, nothing flat; closed it all up, stood up and spotted a snake. YES, A SNAKE. A snake in my studio downstairs. A snake in the room that used to be my mother’s kitchen.

EMT is deathly in hate with snakes. He won’t even watch them on tv, but I yelled for him and all without telling him why; rat that I am. It was a little snake, and I didn’t think, I was just afraid to lose sight of it and not be able to find it again and then I would have to sleep in the car or on the roof.

The snake was thinner than a pencil, mostly, and probably a foot and a half long. It’s hard to tell when they won’t quit slithering.

He comes down and says, “Get out of here. It’s a copperhead.” We have copperhead here. We had a nest in the gully, the second summer the boys were here. I think EMT burned it out. But, they seem to be plentiful in Brown County. Hence, all the people so proud of this fact that they name their properties, “Copperhead Ridge” “Copperhead Hollow” etc.

Are you ready for this? EMT then killed the snake with the side of a folding table. Whatever works! He then picked it up with his leatherman and put it in the garbage and his brother took it out. After he killed it and turned it over, he says it was probably a black snake. I don’t care, it does not belong in my basement, and how many friends did the darn thing invite in? He searched the basement for more. Found a hole it may have come in and plugged it, but no other snakes. Very brave for a kid who absolutely loathes snakes.

I have now uploaded a new banner.  It is JRock on the pond, he’s the pasty white kid, in the canoe, who is supposed to stay out of the sun, or he becomes the lobster in the pond.

The pond is approximately 30 ft by 100ft and 30 ft deep in the center.  I don’t think it takes him more than one or two pushes to actually go end to end, but he enjoys it.

What to do?  What to do?

Wonder how bad I would mess up my web page if I worked on it at 1:00am???  I’ll let you know.

Sunday could be family day. I’m sure it is in many homes but we have two teens left at home and they are working now, so Sunday is “let’s go do something day” and they don’t necessarily want us, old folk, tagging along.

EMT graduated this year, after four years on the Honor Roll.  It was an eventful day, with his stalker making her presence known and him finding out that his supposed work phone (from his previous two week odd job, heping a friend) was actually provided by his stalker and he was being tracked with a GPS tracker on it. My Army grandson says, “Stalkers can be fun, for a while.”  We are now past the fun part and to the “Let’s go talk to the Brown County Prosecutor on Monday and see about a restraining order.”

Thanks to one of President Obama’s stimulus packages, and Governor Mitch Daniels use of it to put low income youth to work, my boys are making a decent summer wage. That is not to say it is easy. Nope, they are putting these guys through their paces, but being ex-farmers, it’s no biggie. I can tell because, after hauling rocks one day and  6×6 timbres for hours the next, these ex-farm lads came home and went to bed at 6:30pm.

They work together, which we worried a bit about in the beginning.  EMT can be overbearing to his brother at times.  But, now that EMT has discovered that his ex-friend is helping his stalker, his brother is more important to him and EMT and JRock are hanging out together. JRock’s girlfriend’s family has inherited two more children as the boys like to hang out on their more “farm/horse” land. Yesterday it was a Twilight party. The girls watched the movie and the guys went out to the ‘man room’ after the first half hour of Twilight.

To finish my farm boys update, here are pictures of JRock performing:

This is him singing and playing guitar, with Jane on the base, at the Muddy Boots Café in Nashville, Indiana.

jacob and ms dixon and suede saddle

And, this is him singing, on stage with a group called the Suede Saddle. We took Mom to this concert. She loves their music and turned to me, at one point and said, “I want all those ladies in front of us to know he’s my great-grandson.” I told her I thought the very large digital camera I had pointed at him was sort-of giving them a clue. Unfortunately, I do not hold that camera so steady any more.

Recently, okay, not that long ago but in my mind it is well ‘lucid’ (which my relatives often say I am not.).   I bet the punctuation is way off in that sentence.  Please excuse me, my unknown future and wonderful agent.  Anyway, I remembered this post from Lucid Dreaming for Slackers ? Cranky Fitness.

I have very vibrant dreams, and occasionally hallucinations.  Last night Irritating little Chihuahua woke me up and, instead of her, I saw a black “other animal” (I said the dreams were vivid not the memory) sitting up and begging against the back of the couch.  He was a lot larger than the Chihuahua, who was by this time on the floor.  I gotta lay off the Melatonin.

We were having dinner with JRock’s girlfriend’s parents Saturday night and she had the DVD of Twilight. I’ll get to the point, in a minute.  You know that scene where she wakes up and the vampire guy is in her room and she blinks and he isn’t.  Like he wasn’t ever in her room, but he really was there all along?  Well, that is my life.

It is my night actually.  Sometimes, a swift image of a person is there. At times, I wake up and see clumps of black things dancing around near the ceiling.   I am sure it is some medicine I am on, perhaps combined with Melatonin.  It really doesn’t scare me any, so I haven’t bothered reading the inserts to see what is doing it.  Remember, this is the woman who found a rare earthquake great fun.

I did try the Lucid dreaming note taking for a few days but it takes time and I have enough to do right now.  My former violin teacher had dream diaries that covered years.  He swore by the method.  He said he had great control of his dreams and could direct them.  My goal would have been to be able to control some dreams, like to be able to fly more often in dreams.  That is cool when it happens!

It would also be neat to control who is in my dreams.

So, what I want to know—my burning question is:

Why do I keep dreaming about Nicholas Cage rather than Viggo Mortensen.  If I have to have a vivid dream guy dream, I want it to be Viggo.

JRock attended the ISSMA (Indiana State School Music Association) Solo and Ensemble event today and took  Silver in the Solo Division. (He was one point from a gold.)

For those of you who wish to hear him sing, while the ticket prices are low (where’s a smilie when you need one?), he sits in on a set the first and third Friday’s of the month, at the Muddy Boots Cafe, in Nashville, Indiana.

The holidays are almost over, for me at last.  As Zup pointed out, I am a holiday nut.  Gaffer flies off in a few hours.  The tree comes down next week and I need to find a new banner; for real.  It is bitter cold here this week, two hour time delays for school and power outages are the norm.

The other night, while the guys were playing cards, the power started flickering.  On, off —- on, off —- Then it was going on and off so rapidly, I got a headache from it.  And, you wouldn’t believe it, but then, it didn’t come back on.  Shock!  Shock!  In Brown County, Indiana, we would have a power outage.  Actually, the odd thing is we did not have one last month.  Unfortunately, this one lasted eight hours and the furnace ran all day trying to catch back up.  Man, this house is leaky.

Last night I went to hear JRock sing and play at Muddy Boots cafe.  His guitar/voice teacher has taken him under his ring and JRock does a set now with the teacher.  He sings lot’s of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams.  I think it is about time to rename JRock.  So, I guess he will be JCountry from now on.

He is really comfortable on the stage and his guitar work is improving.  His voice has always been really good and they are harmonizing well too.  Of course, his teacher has been at this for forty years and has many awards

We’re watching  Jeff Dunham’s Christmas special DVD before they leave for the airport, in between watching Obama’s train trip.  When I was young, I wrote a letter to President Eisenhower, with a plea to help this country accept all people as equal.  I’m a pasty white woman but I’m proud as can be to finally see this step in the country’s history.

So, the house goes back to normal this week.  The tree and decorations come down and I make way for my Harry Potter trunk and goodies, on the shelf.  My Gryffindor scarf progresses, and my piles of year end papers clutter the floor.

I had a lot of time to knit on it these past two weeks; first in the hospital and then in the Rehab center with mom.  She’s home now.  The Rehab center was wonderful for her as she ate right and got all her medications.  I know it is a boring place to be but she was well taken care of.

And, maybe I can find a bit more humor out there.  Oh, how I love going through stacks of papers!!!

Poor mom is still in the hospital tonight.  She has several infections, double pneumonia and walking pneumonia.  She was dehydrated and is so unstable that they are transferring her to a rehab facility to try to help her.  And, Indiana has snow over ice on the roads and I cannot get out to get there.  But, at least I know she is being taken care of.

JRock has gotten home from his guitar lesson tonight with the offer, by his teacher, to give him lessons once a week, for only $10 over what the twice a month lessons are.  He is also working with him on harmonizing, so that JRock can sing and play with him at the Muddy Boots Cafe, in Nashville, Indiana, twice a month.  So, he is on a natural high right now.

On another note, EMT boy has finally had the “homework” slam.  For the three years he has been with us, I have seen him do homework about three times.  This is his final semester, of his senior year and he came home with two hours of homework.  He maintains a 3.1 to 3.5 GPA, so I can not complain, but he was not a happy camper tonight.  Welcome to the real world, boy.

Next week, he starts doing RN training at the local nursing home.  This is not the same home that mom is being transferred to, unfortunately or fortunately.  It is hard to know which way it is.  She seems to have taken a liking to her IV monitor machine.  The nurses say she talks to it and that it calls her Mom.  What will technology think of next?

So, that is mostly my day.  Hope yours has gone well.
